Division finds in R.I. Fast Ferry’s favor

The Rhode Island Fast Ferry, seeking to operate a hi-speed ferry service from Quonset Point to Block Island, has prevailed in its latest legal battle with the Town of New Shoreham and Interstate Navigation, which operates the Block Island Ferry. If RIFF prevails in Superior Court all that will be standing in its way to operate the service is satisfying the dockage requirement at Old Harbor.

The Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers has denied and dismissed New Shoreham and Interstate Navigation’s motion asking the Division to revisit the fast ferry’s dockage application. As part of RIFF being granted a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity license by the Division on Dec. 10, 2015 to operate the proposed service, the fast ferry company is required to secure suitable dockage at Old Harbor.
