Trussco's Joint Venture Adds Jobs
Quonset tenant Trussco, Inc. announced a joint venture with B&M Depots of Rhode Island, Inc. to open a full-service depot facility for the shipping industry and other local businesses, creating six jobs initially. Trussco is one of New England's leading roof truss manufacturers and suppliers of engineered wood products. The joint venture was struck in advance of the upgrades to the Port of Davisville from a federal TIGER grant, anticipating additional port-related business."
We believe that the TIGER grant improvements, along with high quality depot services, will bring additional business to the port," said Scott Duckworth, general manager of Trussco. "Our market research concluded that new shipping customers will choose an improved facility at Quonset over other congested terminals in the region."
Depot services resulting from the joint venture will include: complete repair service for containers and chassis; 24 hour road service for truckers; long- and short-term storage for containers and chassis, and new and used containers and chassis for sale and lease (including refrigeration equipment)."This is a case where public sector investment in infrastructure has led to new jobs in the private sector," said QDC Managing Director Steven J. King, P.E. "We're pleased to be able to work with our tenants at Quonset to create jobs."
TownePlace by Marriott Takes Shape
Quonset's newest building is taking shape on the outside and turning green on the inside. TownePlace Suites by Marriott, part of developer New Boston Fund's Gateway project, is framed and has risen to its full height. Builder ProCon, Inc. is on track to make the 103-room extended stay hotel one of the first LEED certified in Rhode Island.
The hotel has been registered with the US Green Building Council, and many green features have been incorporated since the beginning of the project. Geothermal wells have been drilled, piped and grouted for the building's geothermal heating system. Recycled materials are incorporated in the building, and unusable materials unearthed during excavation are being crushed for use in other construction projects. The lot is being landscaped for low water needs, with a system for storm water collection.
TownePlace Suites by Marriott, which is designed for the extended stay traveler looking for moderately priced accommodations, will offer complimentary continental breakfast and each suite will have separate working, lounging and sleeping areas.
