Cars moving fast at Port of Davisville

Automobiles are the action at the Port of Davisville, where the rubber hits the road for imports that roll off mega carriers, for shipment to dealers in more than a dozen states, in a well choreographed, "Behind The Scenes Ballet," aimed at getting them off the ship and on their way.

About 1,000 cars per ship arrive into the port in a two-part process that starts at the pier, and moves over to nearby North Atlantic Distribution.

It's a sizeable operation, with Davisville ranked Number 8 in the country in terms of auto import volume, says Port Director Evan Matthews.

Shipments are up this year over last year. Some of the ships can carry over 6,000 cars at a shot, making several port calls.
